In the crumbling ruins of a cursed city, three factions vie for the PCs' assistance in delving newly unearthed catacombs. Will you hire yourself out to the "New Nobles" who excavate and control access to the ruins, or will you cut a deal with the Thieves' Guild for another way in? Don't forget about the necromancers who want to offer you a deal—at midnight in the graveyard, of course.

Into the Crumbling Catacombs is a classic dungeon crawl, with three separate entrances (one for each faction), puzzles, traps, and monsters galore. What tools the PCs have at their disposal depends on the order in which they explore the dungeon's seventeen rooms (fine, two of them are hallways) and what chances they are willing to take in search of fortune and glory.

This low level (1-3) adventure was created for the Knave 2e Adventure Game Jam put on by Questing Beast. It was designed using Knave 2e’s random tables, a classic Dyson Logos map, and a little help from random tables in Shadowdark RPG and Matt Finch’s Tome of Adventure Design (Revised). The adventure can be converted to other OSR games with little to no effort.

New Monsters:

  • Gibbering Mouther
  • Grimalkin
  • Runewraith
  • Swarm of Rats

Magic Items:

  • The Famous Refreshing Bedroll (sleep as if in a safe haven, even out in the wild)
  • The Necromancer's Lantern (hooded, shines a green death ray)
  • Ghostblade (a dagger sharp enough to cut a ghost)
  • Chaos Spellbook (because chaotic, wild magic is the best magic)

Into the Crumbling Catacombs is an independent production of Grick in the Larder Games and is not affiliated with Questing Beast LLC.

I had to submit this adventure for the game jam before I could playtest it (yay scheduling). I currently have two groups delving the dungeon (from two different entrances). I will adjust the adventure afterward if needed.
